“Overcome” centers on the abuse endured by men and the expectations the world has of them -being these strong, emotionless beings [maybe ‘things’?]. It’s a topic that is largely shunned by the world; a silent struggle if you will, but yet very real. Far too often men fall victims to manipulators, narcissists, and people who exploit these expectations to spawn men who, in turn, end up being labeled as the abuser (Reactive Abuse). In a world where for some odd reason we romanticize or even glorify these types of behavior, I wanted to shine light on the fact that it’s not romantic; it is very real. “Overcome” gives insight on the experiences through the eyes of the abused and questions how we can overcome, because while we may survive the bad experience, the side-effects of verbal and physical trauma can linger and haunt one forever. As frightening as the world can be, find the courage to break the silence and rise above.
lyrics
The burden of the world carried on the shoulders of men
And yet they dare cast the spell of manipulation
Exploitation, oppression, chant the hymns of degradation
Victims they chose to be, as they stand tall looking down on me
And silence seals our lips shut
For our cries of help are deemed feminine
And thus frivolous in a world ruled by (barbaric) men
And silence seals our lips shut
For our cries of help are deemed humorous
The world turning a blind eye to the maidens
Gaslighting our fellow men
Poisonous words that cloud the mind
Poisonous words that haunt the mind.
Forever lingering
Poisonous words that cloud the mind
Poisonous words that haunt the mind
Distorting, all rational thought
And silence seals our lips shut
For our cries of help are deemed feminine
And thus frivolous in a world ruled by (barbaric) men
And silence seals our lips shut
For our cries of help are deemed humorous
The world turning a blind eye to the maidens
Gaslighting our fellow men
A mind cloaked in irrationality
Forever lost in the world of thought
An endless cycle of your degrading words
Forever conjuring the darkest times
An endless war of thought
And many men have fallen
On efforts to break the curse
Shall you overcome?
